Fajardo is one of the most originally beautiful spots on the Puerto Rico's shores. Fajardo is a major boating center, with a wide range of rentals and charters available, with daily sport-diving excursions. Perfect beaches are bounded by calm, clear water ideal for snorkeling. Seven Seas Beach offers plentiful water sports facilities, offshore points for sailing, snorkeling and plenty of scuba diving. The Faro de Fajardo is owned and managed by the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico. The three promontories that extend into the Atlantic Ocean from the Island's eastern corner opened as a reserve in March 1991 and features a nature center and a 19th century working lighthouse, "El Faro". The carefully restored neoclassical lighthouse is the second oldest on the Island and offers a magnificent view that, on a clear day, reaches distant Caribbean islands. Las Cabezas de San Juan State Park located in Fajardo, it has a piece of the island's lush tropical rain forests and it also has a scientific research center, which is also home to many endangered species. The park has many trails and boardwalks that can be enjoyed by the visitors. "El Faro" the island’s second oldest lighthouse is also situated here, and is still in working condition. On a clear day, this lighthouse provides a magnificent view of the far Caribbean Islands. Las Cabezas de San Juan is a natural reserve of beautiful marshes which are home to beautiful birds and other native fauna and flora. A 2-hour long tour takes you deep into the marshes, with frequent stops to get into even closer contact with nature. English usually spoken on request. The tour includes a stop at El Faro, one of the oldest lighthouses in the New World. The views are spectacular. Bring your cameras. A souvenir shop features many items of interest to the ecology-minded. Reservations are mandatory. |
