Fajardo flights - where your trip starts
Diego Jimenez Torres Airport (IATA: FAJ, ICAO: TJFA, FAA LID: X95) is a public airport located one mile (2 km) northeast of the central business district of the city of Fajardo in Puerto Rico. Diego Jimenez Torres Airport covers an area of 95 acres (38 ha) which contains one asphalt runway (8/26) measuring 3,600 x 75 ft. (1,097 x 23 m). For 12-month period ending March 16, 1998, the airport had 14,314 aircraft operations, an average of 39 per day: 90% air taxi and 10% general aviation. There are 5 aircraft based at this airport: 2 single engine, 2 multi engine and 1 ultralight. The regional airports in Fajardo and Humacao could be consolidated in the future with the opening of Roosevelt Roads airport in Ceiba. Once the transfer of the former Roosevelt Roads Navy Base is completed, its airport will become part of the Island's transportation infrastructure and new gateway for the eastern region. The airport built by the Navy counts with an extensive runway and now will be devoted primarily to handling cargo, most of which will migrate from LMMIA. The small Fajardo Airport offers flights to Vieques and Culebra islands off the east coast. It is also possible to charter planes to other nearby destinations. This airstrip is only for small planes but is actually quite busy. The regional airport for connections to the local islands, or onto the islands further down the chain is nearby and ferry's also run locally to Culebra and Vieques.
